Risks and Resilience: A Youth Point of View

Workshop Description

The Lower Township Healthy Youth Resiliency Team discusses reasons why youth turn to drugs and how to stay resilient. We recognize that drug use is a process that does not occur overnight, but evolves over time. Reasons why youth use drugs are not just from curiosity and peer pressure but from mental health disorders and internal places.

During the video, we discuss a common misconception that drugs can lessen the effects of mental health disorders; however, in reality, it has been proven to make them worse. To stay resilient, youth use sports and other activities to produce a natural buzz without drugs. These activities help to stay busy, release endorphins and remain resilient from drugs and alcohol.
